It is no secret that the divorce process can evoke a number of emotions in all parties involved. There are a lot of things to take into consideration, such as child custody, child support and even spousal support, which will make emotions run high.
For one couple, the divorce proceedings were almost over and things were going accordingly. The man and woman, both former marines, were in the judge's chambers for their last divorce hearing. But when the issue of child support arose, things took a turn for the worse.
When child support was mentioned, the man said that he would not pay child support for the two children that he and the woman had during their five year marriage. When the judge told him that child support was necessary, the man simply left the chambers. He returned almost immediately after leaving.
What happened next was shocking: the man began to punch the woman, his estranged wife. Those who were in the room said that it was sudden; the man had to be restrained. Several deputies were called into the room to help keep the man from beating his estranged wife.
The judge stated that had he believed the man was violent, he would have had additional security in his chambers. In the past, the woman had tried to get restraining orders against her estranged husband, but her attempts were denied.
As a result of the attack on his estranged wife, the man was arrested and charged with felony battery. Though he is currently in jail being held on bond, his estranged wife believes that the circumstances surrounding this outburst indicate a risk to her safety once he is released from jail.
