Deciding to end a marriage can be a very daunting task for many. There are so many considerations as we've seen in many previous posts. Any decision that must be made will have an impact on life after the separation for both spouses.
Ohio couples, like couples across the nation, are faced with issues like property division, child support, and child custody when choosing to end a marriage. One solution for these couples is to seek dissolution of their marriage. A dissolution agreement can help them reach resolutions on many issues, including the complicated task of deciding what to do with a home.
Interestingly, research is showing that houses are keeping couples together, even if the couple agrees that the marriage is over. Because of the recession and the housing market, couples believe that it is in their better interest to keep the property instead of selling it. There are a lot of risks associated with selling a house.
In an already emotionally charged situation, trying to figure out what to do with a house could intensify the process of dissolving the marriage. One spouse may want to sell the home to get it over with, while the other may believe it better to wait until the housing market bounces back.
Unfortunately, researchers believe that it could take years for the housing market to turn around. Should a couple be forced to stay together simply because they own a home together?
When faced with this situation, couples should seek the advice of someone who understands the dissolution process and can help determine what the next step should be. This can help a couple reach an effective marriage dissolution agreement on all areas, not just property division issues.
